SANDAKAN: The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has placed the empowerment of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) at the forefront of its agenda, following a highly successful Zone AGM on July 19 that saw over 130 members pack the Sandakan premises.
In his keynote address, Party President Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee warned that escalating regional geopolitical tensions pose a direct threat to local traders. He announced that SAPP will actively roll out practical training programmes to ensure that small businesses are not left behind.
“Resilience is key,” Yong stated.
“We must equip our traders with the skills to withstand uncertainty.” He urged SMEs in need of assistance to come forward and register through the SAPP Sandakan Zone office, where they will receive specialized advice and support.
Yong concluded by asserting that economic vitality is non-negotiable for Sabah’s future. “Without a strong economic base, we cannot protect our people or progress as a state,” he said.
The meeting also featured addresses from Zone Chairman Datuk Richard Yong, who spoke on the party’s internal solidarity, and Vice President Thomas Lau, who reaffirmed SAPP’s dedication to delivering a robust comeback to steer Sandakan toward sustainable growth. – James Leong
