Three injured in five-vehicle pileup, foreigner arrested for RM450 theft

TAWAU: The district cops here reported two separate incidents: a five-vehicle accident that left three people injured, and the arrest of a foreigner in connection with a RM450 theft.
In the first incident, a chain-reaction crash involving five vehicles occurred at Mile 15 Jalan Apas at about 7.20pm on Oct 22. The vehicles involved were two Perodua Bezzas, a Proton Saga, a Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive, and a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle.
According to OCPD Rosdi Mat Jusoh, the incident occurred when a 52-year-old motorcyclist lost control and skidded, throwing him onto the road. A Toyota Hilux driver stopped to help him, but a Perodua Bezza traveling from Balung towards Tawau town lost control and crashed into the stationary vehicles and the people assisting the motorcyclist.
The Toyota Hilux driver, a 30-year-old man, suffered a fractured right arm, while the motorcyclist sustained bruises to his hands, left leg, and face. The Perodua Bezza driver complained of chest pain, and a bystander who was helping the motorcyclist suffered a minor forehead cut. The three main drivers were taken to Tawau Hospital for treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In a separate case, police arrested a male foreigner in his 20s to assist in the investigation of a RM450 theft at a house in Kampung Pasir Putih on Oct 7.
The suspect was detained by a District Criminal Investigation Division team by the side of Jalan Pelabuhan at around 5.50pm on Oct 22. The 43-year-old local victim had lodged a police report at 4.13pm on the day of the incident after discovering that money kept in a container inside his bedroom wardrobe—which also belonged to his child—was missing. The total loss is estimated at RM450 in notes and coins.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 regarding valid travel documents.
Rosdi advised the public to always ensure the security of their homes, keep money and valuables in safe places, and immediately report any suspicious activities. He also stressed that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in criminal activities in accordance with existing laws. – James Leong
