New Naval Region 2 Commander pledges operational boost and personnel welfare focus

SANDAKAN: Newly-appointed Naval Region 2 (Mawilla 2) Commander Rear Admiral Jamaludin Sairi has pledged to enhance the management of the Naval Region 2 Headquarters with a sharp focus on operational capabilities, asset readiness, logistics, and administrative efficiency.
In his maiden address, Jamaludin underscored that the welfare of Mawilla 2 personnel remains a top priority. He also voiced confidence that the Naval chapter of the Armed Forces Family Welfare Association (BAKAT) would continue to actively support the service community.
He officially assumed command from his predecessor, Rear Admiral Ivan Mario Andrew, during the 36th Naval Region 2 Change of Command Ceremony held at Dewan Azim, RMN Housing Complex in Sandakan on Friday. The event was witnessed by Eastern Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Datuk Khir Junaidi Idris.
Jamaludin, who previously served as Deputy Naval Region 2 Commander and, most recently, as Lumut Base Commander, extended his gratitude to Ivan for his contributions to strengthening Mawilla 2.
Meanwhile, Ivan—who is set to retire on Aug 7 after leading the command for three years and 17 weeks—expressed full confidence in his successor’s leadership. He assured the public that the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) remains steadfast in safeguarding Sabah’s waters and extended his appreciation to all Mawilla 2 personnel for their unwavering support throughout his tenure. – James Leong
