KINABATANGAN: A 43-year-old man was killed and another injured in a road accident involving a Proton Wira at Kampung Napagang, Tongod here on Friday.
According to the State Fire and Rescue operations centre, an emergency call was received at 6.26 pm. Fire engines arrived at the scene, located 137 kilometres from the Kinabatangan fire station, at 9.14 pm.
Operations Commander, Senior Fire Officer I Mohamud Punya, reported that the accident involved two male victims.
The first victim managed to exit the vehicle on his own and was taken to hospital by members of the public for treatment.
The second victim, a 43-year-old man, was found trapped in the wreckage. He was extracted by the Tongod Voluntary Fire Unit before the arrival of the firefighting team from the Kinabatangan station. However, the victim was confirmed dead at the scene.
His remains have been handed over to the police for further action.
A total of six personnel from the Kinabatangan fire station and three from the Tongod Voluntary Fire Brigade took part in the operation, assisted by two policemen and two RELA personnel. After ensuring no further danger remained, the operation concluded at 11.19 pm. – James Leong
