KOTA BELUD: The RM21.476 million Taginambur–Kamburaon road upgrading project in Kadamaian, spanning 2.55 kilometres, was launched by Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Datuk Ewon Benedick.
Ewon, who officiated the groundbreaking ceremony, said the scope of the project includes resurfacing works and the construction of a two-way concrete bridge.
He said the project is scheduled for full completion by November 2027.
Ewon, who is also the Kadamaian Assemblyman, said the upgraded road is expected to benefit thousands of residents, particularly parents sending their children to SMK Narinang and SK Taginambur.
The road will also provide greater comfort for daily users, including tourists visiting tourism-related businesses along the route, while supporting economic activities in the surrounding villages.
Ewon said paved road infrastructure would remain a priority for him as the Kadamaian elected representative, as it is a key factor in driving economic growth among the people.
Besides that, he said several other major road upgrading works are currently being implemented in Kadamaian, including Jalan Sayap, Jalan Tengkurus and Jalan Podos, as well as the construction of two concrete bridges, namely Kaung Bridge and Malangkap Bridge.
He expressed hope that more road upgrading projects for key connecting routes could be implemented in the Kadamaian constituency this year, in line with the Sabah Government’s priority to ensure safer and more comfortable basic road infrastructure for the people.
Ewon also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, for providing the allocation, as well as to the Sabah Public Works Department as the implementing agency and all parties involved in ensuring the success of the upgrading project.
Once completed, the road will benefit residents of Kampung Barob, Kampung Potomodun, Kampung Tiong Kamburaon, Kampung Tiong Tiong and Kampung Gontung.
Meanwhile, Kampung Tiong Kamburaon Village Development and Security Committee chairman Juhanis Tinggi expressed his appreciation said villagers had long awaited the upgrading of the road, which is used daily and is essential for sending children to school.
Although the upgrading does not extend fully to his village, Juhanis said it has already provided significant relief, especially in facilitating travel to SMK Narinang and SK Taginambur.
He said residents previously faced difficulties sending their children to school due to the poor condition of the road.
Juhanis also hoped the government would continue upgrading works to Kampung Tiong Manggis, Kampung Tiong Kamburaon and Kampung Tambailik.
He said the route serves as an important alternative road for residents travelling to Tuaran, particularly Tenghilan, which is closer compared with the Kota Belud route.
The road connects seven villages, most of whose residents are farmers, and is vital for daily activities including transporting agricultural produce, purchasing supplies, accessing medical treatment and travelling to other destinations.
