PENAMPANG: The Sabah Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry (MAFFI) has completed the distribution process of beef cattle, dairy cattle and goats that were previously purchased from Australia to recipients.
Its Minister, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, said all the livestock were distributed to eligible recipients after they attended relevant courses, submitted applications and began their respective livestock farming efforts.
He said the aid recipients consisted of 19 participants in the goat farming category, 22 participants in the beef cattle category and two recipients in the dairy cattle category, each involving SLDB and Desa Pendasar.
“We hope that these mother cows and goats will be well cared for and that the potential for breeding based on our research can extend to seven generations.
“It will be able to provide the best possible return on investment to all farmers who have already received this assistance,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after concluding the Sabah Ruminant Project Livestock and Farm Input Handover Ceremony, here, yesterday.
Jamawi said the entire programme involved a cost of approximately RM17 million, funded by the Sabah State Government.
He said the same programme will continue next year with the same quantity of livestock and is scheduled to continue until 2030.
“This effort is important given that some breeders in Sabah still use old breeds that have lower productivity levels, including longer breeding periods.
“We will monitor that if they die due to the breeder’s negligence, then the bond they paid will be forfeited and similarly if they sell without our knowledge, the bond will also be forfeited and they will be blacklisted for future programmes,” he said. – Fardy Bungga
