SEMPORNA: The State Marine Police delivered a significant blow to controlled-goods smuggling networks with two consecutive-day raids in Semporna and Kota Kinabalu, netting total seizures valued at RM526,533.50 and the detention of six individuals.
The first operation, conducted on June 21, targeted the Kampung Mesra water village in Semporna. The marine police confiscated two boats and 277 jerrycans filled with petrol, with an estimated total value of RM132,651.
The second raid, carried out on June 22, saw the marine police storm a warehouse at Taman Dai Ming Baru in Kota Kinabalu. The haul included 17,250 litres of subsidised diesel, eight Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tanks, a skid tank, multiple vehicles, and various fuel-transfer apparatus believed to have been used in illicit operations.
Following both raids, six individuals aged between 25 and 57, comprising four locals and two foreigners, were detained to facilitate further investigations.
The State Marine Police confirmed that the cases are being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for the alleged misappropriation of subsidised fuel supplies.
Sabah Marine Police reiterated its commitment to intensifying enforcement operations, emphasising its dedication to curbing smuggling, ensuring national security, and safeguarding public interests.
These integrated enforcement drives are part of the broader “Op Taring Landai Khas” initiative, launched to curb illegal activities involving controlled goods across Sabah’s coastal and mainland areas. – James Leong
