Aidilfitri a platform to strengthen unity: Matbali

KOTA KINABALU: Sipitang Member of Parliament, Datuk Matbali Musah, urged the community to make the Aidilfitri celebration a platform to strengthen unity and harmony among the people of various races and religions in the state.
He said, Aidilfitri is not just a celebration after a month of fasting, but also an opportunity to strengthen relationships between families, neighbours and friends regardless of background.
In a special message in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, he said the spirit of mutual respect and understanding for each other must continue to be fostered so that community harmony can be maintained, especially in the Sipitang area which is famous for its diverse cultures and traditions.
Matbali, who is also the Chairman of the Malaysian Cocoa Board, also urged the community to take the opportunity in conjunction with Aidilfitri by visiting relatives and friends who have not been seen for a long time, thus strengthening family ties and friendships.
At the same time, he advised the public not to forget the less fortunate such as the poor, the elderly and those in need of assistance so that the joy of Aidilfitri can be felt together.
According to him, the value of concern and mutual assistance is among the important essences of Islamic teachings and the culture of Malaysian society that must continue to be practiced.
Meanwhile, he also reminded the public, those returning to their hometowns in conjunction with the festive season to always be careful on the roads and obey traffic rules for the safety of themselves and their families.
“Make sure your vehicle is in good condition, plan your journey carefully and avoid driving when feeling tired to avoid any unwanted incidents,” he said.
Concluding his message, he wished Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, maaf zahir dan batin to all the people, especially the people in the Sipitang parliamentary constituency, while hoping that this year’s Aidilfitri celebration will continue to strengthen unity and bring joy to all. – John Tambanan
