Two stilt houses collapse in Sandakan, no casualties reported

SANDAKAN: Two wooden stilt houses at Jambatan 18, Kampung Sim-Sim water village here, collapsed yesterday morning, displacing 12 residents.
The incident occurred at 9:25 a.m., prompting immediate response from local authorities and rescue teams.
Tanjong Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung said his service centre team swiftly assisted the affected families.
The Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department, and SESB (Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd) conducted inspections to mitigate further risks.
“Our priority is ensuring the welfare of the victims and minimizing safety hazards,” Poon said, urging his team to assess urgent needs and provide initial aid. He commended the coordinated efforts of rescue agencies and villagers.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Operations Centre revealed two houses were damaged. Sandakan firefighters were notified through MERS 999 at 9:47 a.m.
In a separate case, a double-storey house at Lorong 1, Taman Fortune, Mile 8 Jalan Labuk, was destroyed by fire late Wednesday evening.
Sandakan firemen were despatched to extinguish the blaze after receiving information via MERS 999 at 11:42 p.m. Firefighting operation ended at 2:16 a.m. on Thursday.
No injuries were reported in either incident. – James Leong
