SANDAKAN: Tanjong Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung has contributed materials for the repair of the village jetty to ensure the basic facilities in Kampung Pulau Berhala remain functional and safe for residents.
The handover of the materials was conducted by Tanjong Papat Community Development Leader (PPM), Mohd Faried Ismail, to representatives of Kampung Pulau Berhala residents on April 8.
The jetty, which is currently in poor condition, serves as the main entry and exit point for villagers and plays a crucial role in their daily lives, including economic activities and transportation.
Thus, this repair initiative is expected to enhance the safety and convenience of the local community.
Poon remains committed to ensuring the well-being of the people, particularly those in rural and island communities, receives due attention.
Meanwhile, Poon’s secretary Liau Fui Fui, along with several of his aides, visited an elderly resident suffering from a chronic illness and currently bedridden at his home in Sim Sim shophouse.
The visit was aimed to provide support and assess the patient’s daily needs as well as necessary assistive equipment. As a gesture of care and ongoing community support, a wheelchair will be delivered to the patient in the near future.
Immediate special monthly assistance of RM50 will be disbursed to the patient, allocated from Poon’s funds. This initiative reflects the Assemblyman’s continued commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the people, especially vulnerable groups.
Poon emphasized that he will continue to prioritize the well-being of Tanjong Papat constituents, ensuring no one is left without necessary assistance.
In another development, Poon handed a new television set to the Sandakan Tai Chi Physical Culture Society at their activity centre on April 9.
The donation was in response to the society’s official request earlier this year, intended to enhance Tai Chi teaching, training, and interactive demonstrations. The television set is expected to assist members in adapting to technological advancements and improving their learning experience.
Poon reaffirmed his commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among Sandakan residents and commended the society’s efforts in fostering physical health and community well-being through this traditional martial art.
Also present at the handover ceremony were the society’s Chairman, Kah Ming Chaw, and members, who expressed their gratitude to Poon for the meaningful contribution. – James Leong
