KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP acknowledges the announcement made by Sabah UMNO Chairman, Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin, regarding cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17).
However, Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe on Monday clarified clarify that, as of now, no formal discussions have taken place between the party and any political entity regarding electoral cooperation. Informal meetings among political figures are a common practice.
Nevertheless, Sabah DAP views this development in line with the MADANI spirit championed by the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which has ensured political stability since the last General Election, he said.
Phoong reiterated that Sabah DAP maintains an open stance toward political cooperation with any party, provided that the interests of Sabahans remain the top priority.
Any political collaboration must be policy-driven, contributing to Sabah’s long-term development rather than being solely election-centric. Therefore, Sabah DAP is prepared to engage in discussions on policy frameworks for Sabah’s future before finalizing any political alliance, he continued.
“Sabah DAP reaffirms its stance that post-PRN17 political stability is crucial to sustaining investor confidence and ensuring continued progress in developing Sabah as a prosperous and successful state,” Phoong said.
Phoong said the official position of PH Sabah will be deliberated in an upcoming PH Sabah leadership meeting. – James Leong
