SPM leaver killed in Tawau road accident

TAWAU: A SPM leaver died after his motorcycle was involved in an accident with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle at Mile 15 Jalan Apas on Sunday.
The victim, aged 18, was traveling from Ranggu residential area towards Semporna when the accident occurred at approximately 3:00 pm.
District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin stated that initial investigations revealed that the 4WD, driven by a 51-year-old man, came from a chicken farm and was making a U-turn at the Jalan Quion Hill junction enroute to Kampung Kinabutan.
“The victim’s motorcycle crashed into the left rear of the 4WD. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene,” Jasmin said.
The victim’s body was transported to Tawau District Hospital for a post-mortem, while the 4WD driver escaped unharmed, he added.
“We are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving,” Jasmin said. – James Leong
