Earth Day Celebration in Tuaran this April 22

TUARAN: The Tuaran Parliamentary Constituency People’s Service Centre will host the Tuaran Earth Day Celebration on April 22.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Tuaran District Education Office (PPD), the Department of Environment (JAS), and various government and private agencies.
The celebration will feature activities such as tree-planting, a poster-drawing competition, and environmental exhibitions.
The tree-planting initiative will be conducted simultaneously, involving approximately 29,000 primary and secondary school students across six zones in the Tuaran district.
Planting sites will include riverbanks, erosion-prone areas, landslide-risk zones, and school surroundings.
This year’s Earth Day celebration also aims to set two records in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR): (1.) The largest number of Baccaurea lanceolata (Liposu) trees planted, exceeding 8,800; (2.) The most simultaneous plantings of Liposu trees across 87 primary and secondary schools in the Tuaran district.
Beyond commemorating Earth Day, the programme seeks to raise awareness about the importance of tree planting in preserving natural ecosystems and serving as a sustainable and effective flood mitigation measure.
The opening ceremony will be officiated by Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, at the Sabah Co-Curricular Centre, Malangang Kiulu Camp.
Also expected to attend are Tuaran Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau, department heads, and community leaders. – James Leong
