TAWAU: Fire damaged a house in Taman Berkeley here on Monday but there were no casualties reported in the incident.
The emergency call was received at 9.36 am via the MERS999 system, prompting an immediate response from the Tawau Fire and Rescue station. Fire engines arrived at the scene by 9.44 am, covering a distance of 3 kilometers.
Operation Commander, PBK I Suheizan Bin Sahak, reported that the 20×40-foot house was approximately 40% ablaze upon arrival.
However, members of the public had already extinguished the flames prior to the firemen’s intervention. Firefighters conducted ventilation by opening all doors and windows, followed by a thorough inspection of the affected house.
The blaze was declared under control at 9.57 am. A final safety assessment confirmed no further danger, before firefighting was concluded at 10.43 am.
Authorities commended the public’s swift action in mitigating the blaze and reminded residents to prioritize fire safety measures. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. – James Leong
