RANAU: Young people aged 18 and above have been called upon to verify their voter registration status in preparation for the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election, expected to take place later this year.
Yubidi Gompoyo, Political Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister II and Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam emphasized the importance of ensuring strong support for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition to secure a decisive victory.
He stated that a GRS win would guarantee the continuity of development projects across Sabah, including Kundasang.
Yubidi stressed the critical role of political stability in sustaining progress. He made these remarks while representing Kundasang State Assemblyman, Dr. Joachim in officiating the Healthy and Safe Community Programme at Kampung Pinawantai on May 2.
The event, organized by the Kampung Pinawantai Residents’ Association in collaboration with the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), successfully brought together villagers and surrounding communities to raise awareness on health and safety practices.
Yubidi highlighted the significance of such programmes, noting they not only educate communities on health and safety issues but also strengthen bonds among residents.
“We deeply appreciate the collaboration with government agencies such as the Ranau Health Department, Ranau Fire and Rescue Department, and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Ranau. Their informative talks and demonstrations greatly benefited the community,” he said.
Key activities included free health screenings, disease prevention talks, fire safety demonstrations, and community security workshops.
Yubidi proposed expanding future initiatives to include mental health awareness workshops and programmes addressing social issues, urging Kampung Pinawantai and neighbouring areas to leverage such opportunities to become models of healthy, safe communities.
Organizers also expressed gratitude to the Kundasang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Office for donating food baskets to underprivileged residents and appealed for funding to sustain future community programmes.
Yubidi concluded by thanking the organizers for inviting him to officiate the event.
