KPDN Sandakan inspects Sibuga Jaya Wet Market for selling ‘rotten fish’

SANDAKAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) on Wednesday conducted an inspection at the Sibuga Jaya Wet Market in Mile 8 Jalan Labuk following public complaints that went viral regarding the sale of rotten fish at the market.
The inspection, carried out by a team of KPDN enforcement officers led by deputy enforcement chief Hamat Talip, involved checks under several enforced statutes, including: Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011— ensuring traders display price tags on goods sold to consumers, Consumer Protection Act 1999 — assessing potential fraud related to the quality of goods and Weights and Measures Act 1972 — verifying the accuracy and proper condition of weighing instruments.
The inspection revealed that traders had displayed price tags for consumers, while the weighing instruments used were within their valid calibration period and in good condition. Traders were advised and issued verbal warnings to ensure the freshness of goods sold and compliance with relevant laws. KPDN Sandakan will continue to conduct periodic inspections and monitoring.
KPDN Sandakan enforcement chief Azdy Zukkry John disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, a tree fell on a vehicle parked outside a hotel in Sandakan town on Wednesday evening. No injuries were reported as the car owner, aged 28, was in the hotel lobby at the time of the incident.
Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel were called to the location at 5.20 pm to remove the fallen tree which was obstructing traffic. There were no casualties reported. – James Leong
