Kampung Karamunting Baru nears official gazette status

SANDAKAN: The process to gazette Kampung Karamunting Baru as a formal settlement has taken a significant step forward following the submission of an application to designate 15.56 acres of land to the Sabah Lands and Surveys Department.
Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin stated that the application covers two key aspects: the official recognition of the village and the issuance of land grants to residents.
“This application was formally submitted by village representatives along with legal counsel from the office of Batu Sapi MP Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan,” Hiew explained.
He acknowledged that the process was made possible after Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) President Walter Konson handed over the land to the Sabah State Government for gazetting purposes.
“We deeply appreciate Walter Konson’s commitment in facilitating this matter,” said Hiew, who also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for his strong support.
During a recent State Legislative Assembly session, Hiew and Walter discussed the matter with the Chief Minister, who gave his full backing to expedite the gazetting process.
“The Chief Minister hopes this process can be completed promptly for the welfare of Kampung Karamunting Baru residents,” Hiew added, noting that the land has been properly surveyed and all procedures are progressing smoothly.
With this latest development, Hiew is optimistic that the official gazetting of the over six-decade-old Kampung Karamunting Baru will be realized in the near future. – James Leong
