Fatal accident and deportation of illegal immigrants in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: This east coast town witnessed a fatal road accident and a separate operation to deport illegal immigrants within days of each other.
A 28-year-old local male motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle accident at Mile 5 Jalan Utara, Sandakan on Oct 25 at about 1.10 pm.
Initial police investigations revealed that the motorcyclist grazed the side of a Toyota Vios, lost control, veered into the opposite lane, and crashed into an oncoming Perodua Myvi.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Duchess of Kent Hospital for a post-mortem.
OCPD ACP George Abd Rakman advised the public to always be cautious and obey traffic rules to prevent unwanted incidents.
In a separate event, 616 Filipino illegal immigrants were repatriated through Sandakan Seaport on October 23. The group, comprising 377 men, 134 women, and 105 children and infants, was deported to Zamboanga City, Philippines, via the vessel MV Antonio 1.
According to Sabah Immigration Director Datuk SH Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof, this repatriation brings the total number of illegal immigrants deported since early this year to 8,956. – James Leong
