Proposal to address parking shortage at Duchess of Kent Hospital

SANDAKAN: Robert Chong Thien Ming, vice president of the LDP and a Sandakan Municipal Councillor, has proposed the immediate implementation of temporary measures to address the critical shortage of parking spaces at the Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK).
According to Chong, based on several site visits and public feedback, patients, visitors, and hospital staff continue to face significant difficulties in securing parking and experience daily traffic congestion.
To tackle this issue, he has proposed several short-term measures, including:
Leasing two vacant plots of land near the hospital capable of accommodating approximately 100 vehicles.
Providing a shuttle service between the temporary parking areas and the hospital.
Implementing a structured parking management plan to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
Chong emphasized that this proposal is a low-cost solution, involving only rental and manpower expenses, and requires immediate coordination between Sandakan Municipal Council and relevant government agencies.
He also expressed his intention to submit this plan to the GRS Government after the elections, should the current administration remain in power, for interim implementation while awaiting the completion of long-term planning.
“The people of Sandakan have waited long enough. This is a practical, people-centric initiative and cannot be delayed any further by bureaucracy,” he stated. – James Leong
