SANDAKAN: A house and a car were destroyed in a fire which occurred off Mile 13 here in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 1.58 am, and fire engines arrived at the scene at 2.16 am after travelling a distance of 21 kilometres.
According to the Operations Commander, PBK I Alan Ayuh, the fire involved an 80×80 foot house which was 100% destroyed, along with a car that was also completely burnt.
Firemen took 16 minutes to bring the fire under control by 2.32 am before the firefighting operation was successfully concluded at 3.27 am, said Alan.
The firefighting operation was conducted using one 200-foot hose with two water jets, employing both ‘offensive’ and ‘defensive’ methods. Water supply was sourced from the fire engine and a water tanker, he added.
Meanwhile, Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station officer-in-charge Jimmy Lagung, reported that no injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident.
After the blaze was extinguished, firefighters conducted ‘overhaul’ operation and inspection around the area to ensure no further danger remained before the operation was concluded, he added. – James Leong
