SANDAKAN: A wooden house in Kampung Nanas, Jalan Karamunting, was damaged by a fallen tree yesterday.
According to Sandakan APM Officer Kapten (PA) Sulaiman Salama, the incident, reported at 7.00 am, occurred while the occupants were inside the home.
“A total of five victims were involved, consisting of two adults, two children aged 6 and 4, and one infant. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and all victims are safe,” he stated.
He also added that the homeowner, who was among the victims, managed to rescue her two-day-old child from a cradle during the incident.
The APM Sandakan team that arrived at the scene conducted a preliminary investigation, obtained details from the victims, and carried out cleanup and tree-cutting operations with other rescue agencies.
The Sandakan APM has advised the public to remain vigilant of weather conditions and the risk of falling trees, especially during seasons of heavy rain and strong winds.
Meanwhile, continuous rain since early Monday caused flooding at Kampung Ladang Sandak, Batu 10, here, but water had receded.
The incident, reported to APM Sandakan, caused the access road to Sekolah Kebangsaan Ladang Sandak and surrounding areas to be inundated.
Sulaiman said on-site monitoring found the water level was at a cautionary stage.
“The weather has now cleared and the water is starting to recede. All residents are safe and no evacuations have been carried out so far,” he said on Monday.
