TAWAU: A foreigner in his 40s was arrested by police for allegedly threatening and attempting to attack his own family member with a machete on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 7.20 am at Kampung Sri Aman, Batu 3 Jalan Apas, OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin said.
“The suspect, who is the victim’s brother-in-law, is believed to have become enraged after being admonished by the victim regarding the installation of kitchen tiles at the victim’s house,” he said.
“The suspect, who was in a fit of rage, attempted to swing the machete at the victim, but was restrained and detained by other family members,” explained ACP Jasmin.
The suspect was subsequently apprehended by a police team from the district Criminal Investigation Division at his house around 10.00 am, Jasmin added.
Jasmin said the police team also confiscated a machete measuring approximately 64 centimetres, believed to have been used in the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code (Criminal intimidation) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, he continued.
Jasmin advised the public to resolve any family disputes peacefully and to avoid actions that could endanger themselves or other family members. – James Leong
