Fuel smuggling attempt thwarted in Semporna waters

SEMPORNA: The police here seized 2,250 litres of fuel during a crime prevention patrol in the waters off Bum Bum Island on Wednesday.
OCPD Supt Tan Hiap Wah, stated that a team from the Bum Bum Island Police Station intercepted a suspicious wooden boat and arrested two Filipinos.
“A subsequent inspection led to the discovery of a wooden boat fitted with a 200HP 2-stroke engine, 90 jerry cans containing 2,250 litres of petrol, and two jerry cans of petrol mixed with 2T oil,” Tan disclosed in a statement.
The seized fuel, which was believed to be about to be smuggled to the Philippines, has an estimated market value of RM5,760.
“All confiscated items and the two suspects have been taken to the Semporna District Police Headquarters to be referred to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for further action,” Tan said.
Tan commended the police team on their successful operation.
He emphasized that the Semporna police would continue to crack down on smuggling activities and would show no tolerance for contraband crimes to ensure the safety and security of the district’s waters. – James Leong
