Nine-year-old boy killed in Tawau traffic collision

TAWAU: A nine-year-old boy was killed in a collision between a motorcycle and a double cabin four-wheel-drive vehicle (4WD) at the Mile 2 traffic light intersection in Jalan Apas early Saturday.
Police, who were alerted around 6.00 am, believe the crash occurred at about 5.36 am.
Preliminary investigations indicate the 4WD, driven by a 63-year-old woman, entered the intersection on a green light towards Sin On Market. A motorcycle, reportedly traveling at high speed from the opposite direction, then struck the left front side of the 4WD.
The impact caused the 4WD to lose control. The vehicle swerved, hit a parked Proton Saga, and crashed into a barbershop.
The motorcyclist, aged 48, was carrying his two sons, aged nine and 13. The nine-year-old pillion rider was later pronounced dead at the district hospital. The father sustained serious chest and abdominal injuries, while the 13-year-old suffered minor injuries. The 4WD driver was unharmed.
The case is being investigated for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
