KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister II and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun has proposed that Sabah business players explore bilateral business opportunities in Cambodia.
Masidi said the proposal aims to facilitate business matching between Sabahan companies and their Cambodian counterparts, fostering collaboration and investment prospects that can benefit both sides.
He made the proposal during a courtesy call by Oriental Bank (Cambodia), led by its founder and chairman Datuk Phan Ying Tong, together with Datuk Dexter Lau, Non-Independent Executive Director of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad.
Masidi said the proposed visit would provide a practical platform for business matching, allowing Sabahan companies to engage directly with Cambodian counterparts to explore partnerships with mutual benefits.
“We want this engagement to move beyond introductions to structured business matching that can translate into real partnerships, investments and market access for Sabah and Cambodia,” he said.
He also suggested that Lau, in his capacity as a private sector representative, assist in facilitating business-to-business engagements and market linkage discussions in Cambodia and, potentially, other Indochina markets such as Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, the Philippines, China, Indonesia and Vietnam.
Masidi held discussions with Phan and members of the bank’s board of directors, including Vanseka Sok and Jean Loi Jin Choo, along with Lau.
The meeting sought to strengthen cooperation between the State Government and the banking sector, while exchanging views on economic developments and potential investment opportunities in Sabah.
Masidi expressed appreciation for the visit and said he hoped strategic cooperation between the parties would continue to be strengthened in support of the state’s economic development.
