SEMPORNA: The district police arrested a foreigner for possessing methamphetamine or syabu at Kampung Sejati 1 here on Feb 9.
OCPD Superintendent Tan Hiap Wah said a team of police from the District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division checked a suspicious man at 5.00 pm during Op Tapis.
The inspection led to the discovery of drugs believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 5.86 grams, hidden inside a plastic container belonging to the suspect. The 30-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to the district police headquarters for further action, Tan said.
“The case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory sentence of imprisonment for not less than two (2) years and whipping of not less than three (3) strokes, upon conviction. Checks revealed the suspect has no prior criminal record,” he added.
Tan stressed that the police will not compromise with any individual involved in drug activities and warned that stern action will be taken.
He also advised the public to stay away from drugs and to continue channelling information related to drug activities to the police to ensure public safety and order in the district are always preserved. – James Leong
