Elopura Assemblyman questions quality of public project implementation

SANDAKAN: Elopura State Assemblyman Calvin Chong Ket Kiun, expressed disappointment over the quality of public project implementation after discovering several fan facilities malfunctioning at two main markets in his constituency.
During a follow-up visit to the Kim Fung Bandar Market and Elopura Bandar Market on Monday, he found that at Elopura Bandar Market, one of the newly-installed industrial ceiling fans was found to be broken and inoperable, and at Kim Fung Bandar Market, several wall-mounted fans provided had insufficient wind speed, rendering them ineffective at reducing heat within the market.
According to trader complaints, this ventilation issue directly impacts their comfort and productivity, especially when operating in a crowded and hot market environment for extended periods.
Chong emphasised that this situation reveals serious weaknesses in the planning, monitoring, and quality control aspects of government projects. He criticized the “lackadaisical” attitude in project execution, which leads to newly installed facilities being unusable and wastes public allocations.
“Government projects are not just about completion on paper, but must provide real benefits to the users,” he asserted.
Consequently, he will refer this matter to the relevant authorities for further investigation and demand immediate rectification. He also committed to continuously monitoring this issue until all public facilities in his constituency are functioning properly and are comfortable for public use. – James Leong
