Tawau cops arrest 13 in separate operations, seize drugs and 6,000 litres of subsidised diesel

TAWAU: Police arrested 13 individuals and seized suspected drugs, subsidised diesel and ketum liquid in a series of separate enforcement operations conducted across the district this week.
OCPD ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said three foreign men, aged between 23 and 31, were arrested during the first operation at the workers’ quarters of a brick factory along Jalan Stesen TV. Police also seized about 1,000 millilitres of liquid suspected to be ketum. The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
In a separate operation under Ops Tiris, conducted jointly with the Tawau branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), authorities seized approximately 6,000 litres of subsidised diesel at Jalan Sin San, Pasir Putih.
The seized diesel was valued at RM31,620, while the tanker lorry used to transport it was worth an estimated RM120,000. A 34-year-old local man was arrested, bringing the total value of the seizure to RM151,620.
Meanwhile, six individuals were handed over to the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS) for further action following inspections at eight accommodation premises around Tawau town during a joint anti-vice and prostitution operation.
In another operation, police arrested three individuals, comprising two locals and one foreign national, in two separate raids at Kampung Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4, under Ops Tapis.
Police seized three small packets of substances suspected to be syabu, weighing approximately 0.56 grammes in total. Initial urine screening tests on all three suspects returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Police said enforcement operations and inter-agency cooperation would continue to curb drug abuse, the misuse of controlled goods and other illegal activities.
