Sabah needs youth to save farming – Jamawi

TENOM: Sabah’s agriculture sector will stall unless more young people take up farming, Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industries Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said.
Most farmers and livestock breeders in the state are now elderly, he said.
“We need to equip young people with the skills to drive agriculture on the ground,” said Jamawi at the Sabah Agricultural Park after 70 trainees completed a six-month basic agriculture course.
The trainees studied at four state training centres: Lagut, Soberang Canem in Kota Marudu, and Ulu Dusun in Sandakan.
Jamawi said the Agriculture Department will continue to mentor the graduates and help them find jobs or start their own farm businesses.
“We will guide them so they can succeed like entrepreneurs who have been in this sector for years,” he said.
