Five injured, including children, in Lahad Datu head-on crash

LAHAD DATU: A family outing turned into a frightening experience for seven people, including four children, after their vehicles were involved in a head-on collision at Jalan Segama heading towards Sandakan on Sunday.
The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call on the accident involving a Toyota Hilux and a Perodua Aruz at 2.57 pm. A team of nine firefighters from the Lahad Datu station was despatched to the scene, located 15 kilometres away, and arrived at 3.17 pm.
According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Operations Centre, upon arrival, firefighters found that all seven victims had already managed to escape from their wrecked vehicles on their own.
“The victims sustained minor injuries. Our team immediately provided initial first aid treatment before sending all of them to the hospital for further medical attention,” the spokesperson said.
The victims were – from the Perodua Aruz – a man (uninjured), a woman (minor injuries), a boy (minor injuries), a girl (minor injuries), from the Toyota Hilux – a man (uninjured), a woman (minor injuries) and a girl (minor injuries).
The operation was led by PBK II Roger Eging Garuda. Personnel from the police and the Ministry of Health (KKM) were also present to assist.
Firefighters concluded the operation at 4.05 pm after ensuring the area was safe and clear of any further hazards. – James Leong
