TAWAU: The cops here arrested a man who allegedly went on a rampage and smashed the front screen of his father’s car at Kampung Durian, Merotai Besar, on Wednesday.
Tawau OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin said police received a report at about 9.17am from the suspect’s sister regarding the incident.
He said that in the incident, which occurred at about 7.00 am, the 28-year-old suspect allegedly became aggressive without any apparent reason before damaging his father’s vehicle that was parked within the house compound.
“The complainant informed that her younger brother often becomes violent and damages items in the house whenever his demands are not met. He is also known to frequently ask for money and borrow a motorcycle,” he said.
Following the information received, policemen from the Bombalai Police Station was despatched to the location and arrested the suspect at about 11.20am on the same day in front of his house in Merotai Besar.
Jasmin said the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by damaging property, and further investigations are ongoing.
He stressed that police will not compromise with individuals who act violently or commit acts of vandalism, even when it involves family members.
Jasmin also advised the public not to take matters into their own hands when facing pressure or conflict, but instead seek assistance from the authorities to ensure public safety and order are maintained. – James Leong
