SANDAKAN: The Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), General Datuk Haji Malek Razak Sulaiman, attended a gathering with ATM personnel at Dewan Azim, Navy Housing Complex in Mile 5, on April 5.
The event brought together Royal Malaysian Navy personnel serving in the Sandakan area, as well as Malaysian Army personnel from the 22nd Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD), in a lively and cordial atmosphere.
A total of 18 veterans residing in and around Sandakan were also honoured. They represented several veterans’ associations, including the Sandakan branches of the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association, the Non-Pensionable Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association, the Royal Malaysian Navy Veterans Association, the Malaysian Commando Veterans Association, and the Royal Signals Regiment Veterans Association.
The gathering was aimed to strengthen ties between the top leadership of the Malaysian Armed Forces and personnel at the implementation level, while also providing an opportunity for ATM members to interact more closely with the Armed Forces Chief.
Additionally, the event served as a platform to convey appreciation and recognition to all ATM personnel who remain committed to upholding national sovereignty, particularly in Sabah’s operational areas.
This programme is part of the Armed Forces Chief’s operational visit to the eastern region of Sabah, which includes Tawau, Semporna, Sandakan, Kudat, and Kota Kinabalu. – James Leong
