TVET must align with industry demands – Hazem

SANDAKAN: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) development must be aligned with industry needs, according to Sungai Manila Assemblyman Datuk Hazem Mubarak Tun Musa.
He said this alignment is crucial to ensure that TVET graduates are able to find employment after completing their studies.
“This is exactly what I meant when I raised the issue of TVET during the last State Legislative Assembly sitting,” he stated.
Hazem spoke on May 3 after officiating a technology transformation course on fertigation-based chilli cultivation.
He added that the TVET courses offered must be in line with industry requirements, including the modernisation of agriculture.
“We want graduates to know where they are headed and to have job opportunities once they finish their studies,” he said.
On a separate matter, Hazem noted that barter trade is not new to Sandakan.
He said this form of trade has the potential to boost the district’s economy.
“I asked the government to study this business during the last State Assembly sitting, as it can drive economic growth,” he said.
He further explained that if Sandakan’s economy continues to develop, it will attract more investors to the area.
“We urge the government to look into this matter. When the economy grows, it will bring positive benefits to the people,” he added.
