Tawau police arrest two men in separate cases

TAWAU: Police in Tawau arrested two local men in separate cases: a civil servant for alleged housebreaking and a finance assistant manager for issuing a death threat via WhatsApp.
In the first case, a 42-year-old civil servant was arrested on May 4 in Lahad Datu. He is believed to have broken into a home in Tawau in March, stealing two laptops, a 60-inch TV, a watch, shoes, a handbag and other items. Police seized a laptop, watch, bag and phone.
In the second case, a 59-year-old finance assistant manager was arrested on May 4 in Tawau town. He allegedly sent a voice message via WhatsApp threatening a 36-year-old colleague over a work dispute. The case is being investigated for criminal intimidation.
Separately, Marine Police in Semporna foiled a smuggling attempt early on May 5. A marine police patrol boat chased a speedboat that dumped two gunny sacks overboard containing 8,000 sticks of LASA brand cigarettes worth RM9,600. The suspect escaped, and the case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967. – James Leong
