TAWAU: The body of a 29-year-old woman, who was a person with disabilities (OKU), was discovered in a fish pond along Jalan Sin Onn Tiku on Monday, with police classifying the case as a Sudden Death Report (SDR) after finding no signs of foul play.
Tawau Police Station was notified of the discovery at 9.05 am, prompting a team of policemen to be despatched to the scene for further investigation. The deceased was found without any identification documents. Preliminary checks on the body revealed there were no injuries, ligature marks, or other indications pointing to criminal elements.
Further investigation uncovered that the deceased had been reported missing by her family on 14 June 2026, after she left home and failed to return. She was understood to be a person with disabilities requiring special care.
The body was subsequently sent to the Forensic Department of Tawau Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The autopsy findings confirmed the absence of injuries or criminal elements on the body.
OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin, confirmed the case and urged the public to refrain from speculation or the dissemination of unfounded assumptions that could interfere with the investigation.
“Members of the public are advised not to make any speculations that could disrupt the probe and to respect the privacy of the deceased’s family,” he said.
The case is currently classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR), and investigations are ongoing to complete the death report. Police are waiting for laboratory results to ascertain the actual cause of death. – James Leong
