TAWAU: The cops here arrested a 20-year-old local man for allegedly threatening to kill his mother and choking his grandmother during a family dispute in Kampung Sungai Tuda, Kalabakan.
The suspect was apprehended at approximately 6.00 pm on August 7 by a team from the Tawau Criminal Investigation Division in front of a house in the same village.
OCPD ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh, stated that the arrest was made to assist investigations into a police report lodged on June 24. The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
According to Rosdi, the incident is believed to have occurred on June 23 at around 11.00 pm, when the suspect’s younger sibling received a call from their mother, who reported that the suspect was rampaging at the family home.
“The suspect allegedly threatened to kill his mother and also choked his grandmother during the incident,” he revealed.
Upon arriving at the house, the sibling found the suspect still agitated and attempted to calm him down. However, a scuffle broke out, resulting in injuries to the sibling. The suspect was then ordered out of the house after he was seen holding a spanner, which raised fears for the family’s safety.
The suspect is currently in custody for further investigation, including an initial urine screening test.
Rosdi emphasised that police will not compromise on any form of threats or aggressive behaviour that endangers public safety, even when it involves family members. He urged the public to immediately report any security threats to the police.
In a separate operation, four individuals were detained in Lahad Datu with 92 kilogrammes of Ketum powder seized on Aug 6.
The Lahad Datu Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) nabbed the suspects during “Op Tapis”. They seized 92 packets of Ketum powder weighing an estimated 92 kilogrammes, valued at about RM9,200.
The police team also confiscated 0.12 grams of suspected Methamphetamine (syabu) and drug paraphernalia. One of the four suspects was tested positive for Amphetamine (AMP) and Methamphetamine (METH) during the initial screening.
All suspects were remanded for further probe into the cases under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – James Leong
