TAWAU: A car skidded and crashed into the Simpang 5 roundabout along Jalan Sungai Tajung here on Monday night.
The 54-year-old driver, who was travelling alone, miraculously escaped unscathed. The incident is believed to have occurred around 10.00 pm. According to preliminary police investigations, the unemployed driver had fallen asleep at the wheel, causing him to lose control and veer into the roundabout.
Police were alerted to the accident at 11.36 pm. The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the LN166/59 (Road Traffic Rules).
Following the incident, OCPD ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh, urged all road users to prioritise safety and ensure their vehicles are in proper working condition before setting off. He also stressed the importance of staying fully alert on the road and adjusting speed according to prevailing conditions to prevent such mishaps in the future. – James Leong
