Car crash claims three lives, injures another three in Kunak

KUNAK: Three people were killed and three others injured in a car accident on Jalan Kunak-Semporna on Tuesday, while in a separate incident, a fire destroyed 90 percent of an office building in Kinabatangan in the early hours of Wednesday.
In the first incident, a Perodua Viva carrying six people—including the driver, two adults, and three children—skidded and crashed at KM 7 of Jalan Kunak-Semporna at about 6.03 pm.
According to Kunak OCPD Superintendent Rejali Ak Angong, the vehicle was traveling from Kalabakan to Kampung Sungai Langgas when the driver lost control.
“The driver and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry medical personnel,” Rejali said.
One passenger sustained serious injuries, while two others suffered minor injuries. All three survivors were transported to Kunak Hospital for further treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Rejali urged all motorists to remain vigilant and exercise caution while driving.
In a separate incident, a permanent-type office building at a plantation in Kinabatangan was largely destroyed by fire early on Wednesday.
An emergency call was received through the NG999 system at 5.17 am, with the location situated nearly 140 kilometres from the fire station. A team from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station, led by PBK I Mohamud Punya, arrived at the scene at 9.18 am.
The 20×40 feet structure was found to be 90 percent engulfed in flames. Firefighters conducted extinguishing operations using one auxiliary hose line to bring the fire under control. Overhaul work was carried out to ensure there were no sources of re-ignition.
