SANDAKAN: Datuk Hazem Mubarak Tun Musa, chairman of Sawit Kinabalu, led a site visit to the Sawit Kinabalu Sandakan Industrial Park (SK SIP) on Saturday to assess the area’s progress and its potential to become a key economic driver for the Sandakan district.
The chairman and his delegation toured several strategic locations within the park, including the construction site for the new SKG Sandakan Region building and the site for the Onshore Receiving Facility (ORF), a critical component of the Sandakan Gas Development Project (SGDP). The team also received a comprehensive briefing on available facilities at SK SIP, alongside inspections of SK Jetty Sdn. Bhd., the broader SK SIP industrial zone, and the Seguntor Main Intake Substation.
Emphasising that infrastructure alone is not the end goal Hazem underscored the need for tangible community benefits. “For me, industrial development is not just about building infrastructure,” he said. “It must be translated into investment opportunities, job creation, local business growth, and the improvement of the people’s economy.”
He expressed confidence in Sandakan’s vast potential but stressed the importance of strategic foresight. “What is important is that we continue to look ahead, understand the needs of the industry, and ensure that the planned development truly adds value to this district,” he stated.
Hazem also laid out a clear vision for the district’s future role within Sabah, moving beyond its current status. “We don’t want Sandakan to just be a stopover,” he asserted. “We want Sandakan to become one of the main economic and industrial growth centers in Sabah.”
Concluding the visit, the chairman struck an optimistic note about the district’s trajectory, calling for unity and bold action. “Insya-Allah, with proper planning, cooperation from all parties, and the courage to bring change, Sandakan’s potential can be elevated to a higher level,” he said. “Sandakan has a future.
