TAWAU: Police apprehended a foreigner for trespassing into a plantation and possessing a homemade marble-shooting air rifle. The incident occurred at Mile 15 Jalan Apas Balung, on August 31.
The arrest was made following a police report lodged by the plantation owner, who claimed to have spotted an unidentified man behaving suspiciously within the property. The complainant also observed the man carrying a homemade air rifle and believed he had cut the chain securing the plantation’s gate.
Based on the information, a crime-prevention patrol unit from the Bandar Sri Indah Police Station was immediately dispatched to the location. The team managed to detain a man who was sitting under a tree inside the plantation and subsequently conducted a search of the suspect.
Acting District Police Chief, Superintendent Wilynton Enchana Watt said preliminary probe revealed that the suspect led policemen to the homemade marble air rifle, which he had placed on a chair beneath the tree. Police confiscated the weapon for further analysis. Checks also confirmed that the suspect did not possess any valid identification documents.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code (for criminal trespass), Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 (for illegal possession of a firearm), and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. – James Leong
