KOTA KINABALU: There is a proposal to relocate the Kota Kinabalu Central Market out of the city centre, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“The Kota Kinabalu City Hall will draft a working paper that will be tabled in the Cabinet meeting later,” he said after inspecting the two proposed sites for the new market in Alam Mesra and Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens coastal road.
He said the City Mayor office would also be making a recommendation on the plan on the present Kota Kinabalu Central Market once it is relocated.
“That is why we visited the proposed sites for the new Central Market but this is still in the early stages. If a new one is built, it would have all the amenities, bigger and better,” he said.
Hajiji had earlier visited a 40-acre state land along Jalan UMS in Alam Mesra where the Northern Kota Kinabalu Integrated Market Hub is proposed.
He was briefed by Mayor Datuk Sabin Samitah on site.
Among the amenities at the proposed market hub included a dry market, wet market, a cultural, local and tourism products centre, hawkers centre and fish wharf.
He also visited the second proposed site located on a mixed-commercial land belonging to the Local Government and Housing Ministry near Kampung Likas along Tun Fuad Stephens coastal road adjacent to Anjung Selera.
Also present were State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai and Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun.
