TAWAU: The cops here arrested two local men in separate cases, one suspected of raping a 19-year-old woman and the other for allegedly injuring his wife.
OCPD ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the first suspect, a 24-year-old local barber, was arrested by officers from the District Criminal Investigation Division at about 10.00 pm last Thursday at his home in Kampung Titingan.
The case involved an alleged rape at a public housing unit in Kampung Titingan last Tuesday. Police received a report after the victim claimed she was raped by the suspect, whom she knew.
The incident is believed to have occurred about 10.00 pm after the victim allowed the suspect into her home to help repair her mobile phone. The suspect then allegedly took her into a room and committed the alleged act. The case is being investigated under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, and further investigations are ongoing.
Police advised the public to remain vigilant and not allow anyone into their homes indiscriminately, even neighbours or acquaintances, especially when alone. They urged people to prioritise their safety, avoid being alone with anyone who could pose a risk, and immediately report suspicious incidents or behaviour.
In the second case, a 41-year-old local man was arrested after allegedly injuring his wife at a house in Kampung Muhibbah Raya on Sept 11. Rosdi said the suspect had been arrested at about 3.25 pm the previous day, after the victim lodged a police report.
Preliminary investigations found the incident is believed to have followed a misunderstanding between the couple. The suspect allegedly kicked the victim in the back before striking her head with the handle of a machete, causing bruises and injuries to several parts of her body.
The victim later left the house to stay with her younger sibling before lodging a police report after claiming she was still being harassed by the suspect. The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 18A of the Penal Code, and police advised those facing domestic conflict to seek proper help through the appropriate channels to prevent unwanted incidents. – James Leong
