BELURAN: An Indonesian man perished after being trapped in a fire that completely gutted a two-story house in Kampung Bayu Permai, here on Thursday.
Operation commander, PBK I Mohamed Arsad Kadir, said the emergency call was received at 9.40 am. However, due to the lack of proper access roads, the fire engine faced significant difficulties reaching the location, which was approximately 18 kilometres away. Firefighters only arrived at the scene at 10.28 am.
The blaze involved a two-story wooden structure, which was completely destroyed. Firefighting efforts were carried out using a portable pump with a single 200-foot hose line and two water jets drawing water from an open water source (a pond).
“During the operation, we discovered a male victim, aged 49, in a charred condition. His remains were subsequently handed over to the police further action,” Mohamed Arsad said.
He added that the fire was brought under control at 12.30 pm before the operation was concluded at 12.40 pm after authorities confirmed that no other hazards remained.
