LAHAD DATU: The District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID) arrested a 40-year-old foreigner during an “Op Tapis” raid at Kampung Sharip Simunul here on Monday.
The operation led to the discovery and seizure of eight transparent plastic packets containing a crystalline substance believed to be syabu (methamphetamine), weighing a total of 50.75 grams. The confiscated haul is estimated to be worth around RM5,582.50.
A preliminary urine screening test conducted on the suspect returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine. He was remanded to facilitate further investigations. The case is being probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking, as well as Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug consumption.
District police confirmed that extensive follow-up investigations are still ongoing to trace the source of the drug supply and to identify other individuals believed to be involved in the distribution network. – James Leong
