SANDAKAN: Three individuals were rescued after their vehicle was crushed by a falling teak tree along Jalan Lintas Sibuga on Thursday night, following severe weather conditions that struck the area.
The district Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) swiftly deployed a team to the location upon receiving an emergency distress call via the NG999 hotline. According to Sandakan APM Officer, Kapten (PA) Sulaiman Salama, all trapped victims were freed following the incident which occurred between 7.03 and 7.37 pm.
“One of the victims sustained a minor injury to the elbow and received preliminary medical treatment from our personnel,” he said.
Sulaiman further added that besides the rescue operation, APM personnel also carried out sawing and clearance work to remove the fallen tree and reopen the blocked roadway. The entire operation proceeded smoothly, and no fatalities were reported.
In the wake of the incident, APM Sandakan has urged motorists to remain vigilant while driving, particularly during heavy downpours and gusty winds. The public is also strongly advised to contact emergency services immediately should they encounter any incidents that threaten public safety. – James Leong
