SANDAKAN: Residents of PPR Taman Mesra experienced a moment of panic when a 4-metre-long python was spotted beneath a neighbour’s motorcycle on Monday night.
The Civil Defence Force (APM) was immediately contacted for assistance following the 8.20 pm discovery of the uninvited guest.
Upon arrival, responders found the snake still in the area under the vigilance of residents.
Using specialized tongs and restraints, the APM personnel safely captured the python and secured it in a sack. The reptile was later released back to its natural habitat far away from residences.
No injuries or property damage were reported.
In Lahad Datu, Day One of the search and rescue (SAR) operation for four missing individuals in Tamaco Tungku forest on Monday was suspended at 4.00 pm due to heavy rain and adverse weather conditions.
The Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call from Tungku Police Station requesting assistance in locating the missing persons at 7.02 am the same day.
The individuals had entered the Tamaco Tungku forest to search for forest produce at 4.00 pm on May 8. The group later split into two teams of two. While two of them safely exited the forest, the remaining two remain missing.
A joint SAR was launched, covering a 1-kilometre radius from the last known location of the remaining victims, aged 37 and 41.
The operation involving firemen, police, Malaysian Armed Forces, Civil Defence Force and three civilians resumed on May 13. – James Leong
