KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Sabah Chapter has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the tourism industry in the state.
This follows the successful conclusion of its 36th annual general meeting (AGM) held at a hotel here.
The AGM was attended by 40 representatives from travel agencies and tourism industry stakeholders across Sabah.
Their presence provided an important platform to review the chapter’s progress and elect the Matta Sabah Chapter committee for the 2026–2029 term.
In his address, outgoing chairman for the 2023–2026 term Mohd Azlan Saleh highlighted the importance of continued collaboration among tourism industry players.
He also reaffirmed the chapter’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with government agencies and stakeholders to further enhance Sabah’s tourism industry.
The meeting was also attended by Matta president (2023–2025) Nigel Wong.
During the election session, Alex Chong Vui Loong of Al Hakim Travel and Tours was elected unopposed as Matta Sabah chairman for the 2026–2029 term.
The newly-elected deputy chairman is Noordin Bin Sabtu of Nurnielamsari Travel.
The honorary treasurer is Salviana Binti Basil of Kims Borneo Travel and Tour.
Committee members are Raflan Alimuddin of Nhafirah Tours and Travel Rent A Car and Nor Zahid Bin Rahim of Zahra Adventure.
In his remarks, Alex said the chapter will prioritise strengthening unity among members while expanding opportunities for collaboration within the tourism industry.
“Our priority for the new term is to strengthen unity and cooperation among Matta Sabah members.
“We will also work towards creating more networking opportunities, professional training programmes and stronger collaboration with tourism stakeholders and local authorities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Noordin said the new leadership team is committed to supporting the continued growth of Sabah’s tourism industry.
“The tourism industry in Sabah continues to show strong potential.
“Moving forward, Matta Sabah will continue to work closely with industry players, government agencies and local authorities to create more opportunities for members and further strengthen Sabah’s position as a key tourism destination in the region,” he said.
Matta Sabah also expressed appreciation to all travel agency representatives and members who attended and contributed to the success of the AGM.
