KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd and the State Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) have joined forces to ensure electricity supply reaches every corner of the state.
“This endeavour complements the State Government’s efforts to ensure people in the state, particularly those in rural and interior areas, have access to electricity,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Sabah Electricity and UPPM Sabah at Menara Kinabalu yesterday.
He said the initiative also falls under the purview of the Community Development Leaders (PPM) in delivering the best possible service to their constituents.
He added that the PPM have a vital role to carry out their duties diligently and responsibly.
Under the one-year MoU, both Sabah Electricity and UPPM Sabah will work together to improve electricity connectivity, particularly in areas yet to be covered, develop sustainable energy infrastructure, and raise public awareness of Sabah Electricity’s services and efficient energy use.
Job opportunities will also be created through projects under the collaboration.
In essence, the strategic partnership will act as a central point for all matters related to Sabah Electricity’s services.
Signing on behalf of Sabah Electricity was Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Yaakob Jaafar, while Director Datuk Awang Kadin Tang represented UPPM Sabah.
Also present were State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong and State Attorney General Datuk Brenndon Keith Soh.
