KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, praised the progressive step taken by Jetama Sdn Bhd for being the first government-linked company (GLC) in history to fully sponsor the Kaamatan celebration at the KDCA branch and district level.
He said this initiative serves as the best example of how the corporate sector can play an important role in empowering culture and building a united community.
“I would like to extend my highest congratulations to KDCA Kapayan and Jetama for the success in organising such a meaningful Kaamatan celebration this year,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Kaamatan KDCA Kapayan Jetama 2025 at the Kampung Kibouvang Hall, Kepayan here.
Dr Joachim, who is also the Local Government and Housing Minister said such extraordinary support proves that GLCs can also be catalysts in the formation of an inclusive and harmonious society.
He also praised this year’s Kaamatan theme, “Kaamatan For All,” which he described as being in line with the reality of Sabah’s multi-ethnic, multi-religious, and multi-cultural society.
“This harvest festival is not only a celebration for the Kadazandusun community, but a cultural heritage that unites the people through a spirit of gratitude, mutual cooperation, and togetherness,” said the Deputy President of the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA).
According to him, such events provide an opportunity for the younger generation to learn about and appreciate their own culture, including through the Sumazau dance, gong music, traditional attire, and heritage foods.
At the same time, he said it also creates economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs and those involved in arts and culture.
In this regard, he called for more companies to follow Jetama’s lead, not only by fulfilling corporate social responsibility (CSR) but also by leading the progressive and visionary empowerment of culture.
“I extend my congratulations and thanks to Jetama and the entire organising committee for their commitment and hard work,” he said.
Also present at the event was Kapayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang, who is also the Chairperson of the Desa Development Cooperative.
The event was also enlivened with various cultural performances, traditional foods, and participation from the local community, symbolising the spirit of Kaamatan as a celebration for the people of Sabah.
