Nurture independence spirit among youth, Sabah assemblyman urges

SANDAKAN: The spirit of independence must be continuously fuelled among the people, particularly the youth, regardless of the era, said Sungai Manila Assemblyman Datuk Hazem Mubarak Tun Musa.
Hazem, who is also Sawit Kinabalu chairman, stressed the importance of appreciating the peace and freedom enjoyed today, stating that these blessings must be deeply ingrained in everyone.
“The independence we achieved was no easy feat; it was born out of the struggles and sacrifices of our forebears,” he told reporters after a courtesy visit to his office on Friday.
He noted that the observances of Independence Day, National Day, and Sabah Day serve as vital reminders of the historical journey that shaped the nation and the state. He also revealed that various related programmes have been lined up in the Sungai Manila constituency to further enliven the celebrations.
“We are also encouraging the community to fly the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah flag as a mark of pride and patriotism for our beloved nation and state,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hazem called on the public to never take the nation’s peace and security for granted, and to continually foster a deep love for the country and state. He emphasized that the National Month and Sabah Day celebrations should act as a catalyst to solidify unity and instill patriotic fervour among the younger generation. – James Leong
